Blog - Different Lamps Feature

What’s the difference between Himalayan Salt Lamps and Selenite Lamps?

Both will dissolve in water! … and both are mined from Mother Earth.

SELENITE

What we know for sure:

  • White
  • Crystal (gypsum)
  • Translucent
  • Subject to water damage (pourus)
  • Pleasant and uplifting to look at
  • Selenite is a calm stone that instills deep peace and is excellent for meditation or spiritual work.

BELIEVED TO:

  • Balance energy.
  • Have a cleansing effect that removes negative influences of all kinds.
  • Assist judgment, conscious understanding and insight.
  • Stabilize emotions.
  • Assist healing at an energetic level and may be useful for people who are suffering from chronic illness such as chronic pain syndrome, chronic fatigue, skin disorders, back or other chronic pain.
  • Reverse the effects of “free radicals.”

Selenite constantly recharges and cleans itself. It can cleanse, recharge, and program your crystals and gemstones as well. (Place any crystal, specimen, or pocket stone you have been working with on top of your lamp. )

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Selenite is a fibrous crystal with natural fissures and fibers running lengthwise and will sometimes shed, so please be careful.
  • Selenite lamps are for indoor use only. They are will be affected by moisture, so please do not use any water to cleanse these lamps.(Blow dry, or dry cloth).

At the Oracle, we are concerned about the mining of selenite. We feel that Mother Earth could host visitors to her caverns instead of bringing lamps into our homes.

What do you think?

This is a selenite mine in Mexico.

Note the man relative to the crystals.
Should we take it or leave it where it is?

HIMALAYAN SALT

What we know for sure:

  • Pink to Orange
  • Salt (mineral)
  • Translucent
  • Subject to water damage
  • Pleasant and uplifting to look at
  • Himalayan Salt has hygroscopic properties which helps reduce pollution in the air.

BELIEVED TO:

  • Attract pollutants and neutralize air helping those with allergies and asthma.
  • Produce negative ions (a teeny bit)
  • Neutralize the effects of electronics.
  • Help boost mood and energy levels, especially for those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Small amounts of negative ions may also be helpful in boosting mood.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Himalayan Salt Lamps are made from exactly that – salt. They absorb moisture and can dissolve in water, so please be careful.
  • Himalayan Salt Lamps are for indoor use only. They are will be affected by moisture, so please do not use any water to cleanse these lamps.(Blow dry, or dry cloth).

Himalayan Salt comes from the Salt Range is a hill system in the Punjab province of Pakistan, mainly the great mines of Khewra, Kalabagh and Warcha which yield vast supplies of salt in the foothills of the sacred Himalayn mountrain ranges. Yes, it is mined and will be depleted in under 370 years leaving an empty whole in the most sacred of mountain ranges.
