If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” – Chinese Proverb
What an UN-RETREAT is not: A glamorous escape. High-end accommodation, indulgent spa treatments and perfect menus. Seclusion from the local environment. ‘Time-out’ from reality, disassociated from what’s going on around you. Isolation from the hardships of the local population. Leisure and relaxation. (Okay… you actually WILL get some chill time.)
What an UN-RETREAT is: THREE-FOLD GOAL: To develop an ‘attitude of gratitude’; empower one’s self with the knowledge that you can do anything you set your mind to; and to really, truly, be the change you want to see in the world. An adventure that shares your zest for life and crosses borders in a realistic, get-your-work-clothes-on, pitch in, and make a positive, joyful, difference, empowering women and children living in challenging conditions. Modest accommodation (by 1st world standards). Massage/spa treatments supporting local business. The taste of authentic foods in local restaurants, helping boost a difficult economy. Sharing experiences with Oracle peeps
“If you think you are too small to make an impact, try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room.” Be the Change: Un-Retreat As the desert cools and the whales arrive for their mating season, the oceans are pristine azure in the magical place where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez. This is paradise and the perfect place to invoke an attitude of gratitude and summon your True Self to ‘Be the Change you want to see in the World’. Share smiles and make memories with Mexican women and children who value your help. It starts with an eye-opening drive to the Foundation where you meet our Sarahuaro ladies and help with an English class, see their craft projects, and visit the child care. At the kitchen which feeds over 270 happy children in the poorest part of Cabo you can pitch in and help serve meals, wash dishes, wipe down tables or just watch the fun! After the work has been done; relax at the beach, have an amazing massage, or replenish yourself at a quaint local restaurant.
