- In 1868, Ann Jarvis organized a committee to establish a “Mother’s Friendship Day”, to reunite families that had been divided during the Civil War. Her daughter, Anna, successfully lobbied it to become a recognized event.
- In the US, more than $68 million is spent on greeting cards.
- Carnations were the ‘original’ gift; pink if your mother was living, white if she had passed.
